Game Info
In Tactics Ogre: The Knight of Lodis there are three different game modes beside the basic Story Mode. The first mode is Quest Mode. In Quest Mode, you try to complete five extra missions where you can earn special items like swords and armor. These missions are only available after collecting special books for each quest in the main story. Most of the missions require goth to go on, but money can be earned in the missions to offset the fee. The second mode is VS. Mode. In this mode you can link up two Gameboy Advance systems and fight against your friend's army. The winner and loser receives prizes based on how well they did. There is a maximum of five characters per team and some spells are not allowed. The third mode is Exchange Mode. In Exchange Mode, you can trade characters, items, and spells with a friend. There are some restrictions on what can be traded.
The following information is taken from Atlus' Tactics Ogre site found here. I give full credit to Atlus for writing it. The reason why I decided to quote it and give full credit to Atlus is because it is better than anything I could have written. "Under the watchful eye of the Holy Lodis Empire, strange things are happening on the island of Ovis. Powerful forces have been set in motion, but their motives are masked by political intrigue. It is your mission to investigate these occurrences and discover the true intentions of those involved. The ending of the game will depend on the actions that the main character, Alphonse, takes. You will make many revelations as you proceed, but you must survive the unrelenting battles and cultivate your characters' abilities to unveil the ultimate truth." The island of Ovis, located to the west of the continent of Galicia, has been under the rule of the Holy Lodis Empire for the last 15 years, and its inhabitants have been forced to convert to
Lodisism. Although the southern region, Anser, initially resisted subjugation, today it flourishes because of trade with the mainland, and the lives of its people have been enriched.
Rananculus, the northern region of Ovis which is surrounded by mountains and forests, accepted the conversion without putting up a fight.
At present, inhabitable land is scarce and now only a few aristocrats and civilians live there.
Alphonse, the main character of the story and a member of the Order of the Sacred Flame, visits this region to investigate an unusual occurrence.
His life will forever be changed from his encounters with the people there." The battle system in this game is turn-based just like Tactics Ogre and Final Fantasy Tactics. You control an army of eight and move them around one by one to attack the opposing forces on a map. Shown below is how to place your army for battle and picking actions for the the characters to do.
Equipment helps make your characters perform well in battle. Some characters have a specific weapon that makes them do more damage and have a nifty attack. As you progress through the game, you will find better weapons and armor to use. Some equipment is meant for magic users and some is better suited for frontline fighters. The best way to earn better equipment is by progressing in the game or from Quest Mode.
Characters are designated with an element when you first get them. When you recruit characters at shops, you can pick which element they are. The element affects how well your characters perform on terrain, in weather conditions, and against other characters with elements. The ninja in the above picture has a water element for example. There are four elements that characters can be. These are wind, water, fire, and earth. The two other elements, virtue and bane, can only be assigned to the special classes: undead characters, liches, and angel knights.
Emblems are used throughout the game to represent accomplishments achieved by individual characters. Some emblems can enable a character to change class while others alter stats. Some emblems are hard to get, while others require a simple action like hitting two people with a spear at the same time.
